Information
Summary Status: rare (Category III) with narrow habitat, but endemic throughout Kazakstan. Its main habitat areas include the Kara Kum and Kyzyl Kum Deserts. In the last 50 years this subspecies has not experienced any significant population changes. The panders ground-jay nests in sandy deserts where occasional trees can also be found. Population numbers have not been determined. The most important factor limiting the number of this species is the cultivation of the Akdaly massif which is located almost in the center of its habitat. To protect the panders ground-jay, it is necessary to develop the Prybalkhash Preserve along the Ili River.
