Summary | Status: endangered (Category I), it has not been seen in Kazakstan for 40 years. It was mainly distributed in the mountains of the southern Altai, Saur, Tarbagatay, Dzhungar Alatau and central and northern Tian Shan. It lives in rocky areas, plateaus and forests of the alpine and subalpine mountain belts. Its total population is very small. The basic limiting factors are unknown, but it is suspected that hunting of this animal is one of the main reasons for its disappearance. Hunting in the Commonwealth of Independent States countries has been banned since 1971. To ensure the survival of this animal, it is necessary to breed it in zoos. |
