Summary Status: rare (Category III), habitat area and numbers are decreasing. It inhabits the Mangyshlak Peninsula, the Ustyurt Plateau, an area along the Emba river, the Kyzyl Kum Desert, the mountains of Kara-tau, Tian Shan, Chu-Ili, Dzhungar Alatau, Tarbagatay, Saur, Kalbin and Southern Altai, as well as the southern part of the Kazak uplands. Pallass cat lives in deser-ted low mountains, alpine spurs and step-pes. Basic limiting factors are poaching and the reduction of forage.
