Summary | Status: rare (Category III), inhabiting a very limited territory in southern Kazakstan, it is the only representative of its genus in Kazakstan and Central Asia. Its breeding success is severely affected by plowing, by haymaking operations, the overgrazing of livestock and road building activities. A part of the lizards core habitat is situated within the bounds of the Aksu-Dzhabagly Reserve; it will also receive protection in the Karatau Reserve now being planned. It is necessary to determine distribution and population size and to study the peculiarities of its reproduction. |
