Summary | Status: indeterminate (Category IV), a rare and very poorly known snake species. Its core habitat includes the Mangyshlak Peninsula, the Ustyurt Plateau and the northern part of the Aral Sea Basin. Some specimens were also found far from this area to the south of Kyzylorda town and in the area between the Volga and Ural Rivers. Grazing livestock and malicious destruction by human has severely affected its population size. Cases of successful incubation of eggs are known. Part of the four-lined snakes core habitat is included in the Ustyurt Nature Reserve. It is necessary to continue research on this snakes distribution, population size and biology. |
