Information
Summary Status: out of danger (Category V) a substantial number of these swans has been restored in its habitat on the Siberian tundra and at the juncture of tundra and taiga forest where it nests and breeds. Approximately 1,000 individuals migrate in the spring and autumn to the western part of Kazakstan. Poaching is the basic cause for the reduction in the Bewicks swans population. It is necessary to strengthen protective measures by creating reserves for this swan as stopovers during its migration flights. Hunters should also be provided with identification information so that they can avoid shooting it by mistake.
