Summary Status: vulnerable (Category II), previously listed as endangered, but the population is currently increasing. It inhabits the steppe of Eurasia and Central Asia. The little bustard is equally distributed throughout western Kazakstan, in other areas it is seen only sporadically. The population is relatively high only in western Kazakstan. In other regions, only single pairs are usually observed. The limiting factor is agricultural development. This bird is protected in the Naurzum Reserve and other reserves where only 2 to 3 pairs are found. To protect this species, it is necessary to create reserves in the valley of the Ural river.
