Summary Status: rare (Category III), the distribution of this species is spotty. In Kazakstan its range includes the northern and northeastern shore of the Aral Sea, the valleys of the Torgai and Irgiz-Chelkar Rivers and the Betpak Dala Desert. The population is es-timated to be a few 1,000 individuals, but currently only two colonies of 100 and 70 specimens are known. Basic limiting factors are unknown, but may include the destruction of gravestones where this species lives, and capturing of individuals for collections. No special protection measures have been developed except for prohibiting collecting.
